Review on Improve Performance with RKX 1.8T 2.7T Precision Machined Diverter Valve REBUILD KIT by Tim Beckett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Installed same alignment as OEM worked fine for me.

I bought this for a 2003 Passat (B5.5) 1.8T to replace the factory valve. The only update I have is the GIAC software update for October 91st. Before installing I sprayed at 22psi and came down from there. I was told to replace the OEM due to possible and impending failure. After research, it looked like a good replacement, like other top brand models. I first installed it as recommended by RKX which is the opposite of OEM. I installed a red spring with two washers. I found the boost to work very much like an OEM valve - it ramps up to 22psi and then drops off quickly. Although it was strange. So I decided to turn the valve back to its original position (with stem/side connection to intercooler and piston/end connection to air intake). However, I must report that upon turning the valve back to its original position, I found that the vacuum line was loose when I first installed this valve. I'm not sure when it loosened, but I believe it was just before the valve orientation was changed. I say this for two reasons: 1) the car was able to boost to 22psi before stalling, and I don't think the car could have made that much boost with the vacuum line open; and 2) the car was acting weird just before I put it on the lift - not really boosting etc. After all this the car now holds lift at 22psi noticeably longer than when the valving was at RKX's recommendations oriented. This makes sense to me because the valve will ONLY open when a vacuum is drawn. If the piston side of the valve faces the charge air cooler, the charge air cooler can open if the boost pressure exceeds the spring pressure. You could argue that I should have installed a higher rate spring and left the orientation recommended by the factory, but I decided to just twist it and see if that helped and worked. And it happened. UPDATE 10-7-2017: Still peak pressure around 21-22psi and holding up well. I highly recommend this product.
