Review on πŸš— K&N Cold Air Intake Kit: High Performance Upgrade for 2011-2018 Ford Turbo Ecoboost 3.5L V6: Boost Horsepower with 69-3531TS by Matthias Foxx

Good. Nothing particularly surprising, though.

All right. I had a K&N air intake on a previous car and it made a huge difference in gas mileage and gave the 4 cylinder a deep guttural growl. As with all K&N products, the reception quality is excellent, but the verdict on the benefits is still pending. I'm trying to convince myself that my 2016 Explorer Sport is about 1mpg better, but that's hard to verify for sure since Colorado is winter and temperatures/conditions change daily. I hope to continue to see that 1mpg improvement. The sound is less than a plus for me. It does NOT add any deeper tone. The only noticeable noise is the air leak when accelerating. It's more of a whistle and I can't say I like it. You also hear the turbines more with this setting, but I'm not sure why. Yes, it adds noise. But these are not the noises that improve the sound of the engine in my opinion. Can't say I noticed the "noticeable improvement in throttle response" that others have mentioned. My Explorer still accelerates well but the 12hp increase at peak rpm is hard to see on a 365hp engine. Fit, fit and quality are great. Everything matched and screwed with commercially available fasteners. It took less than an hour from start to finish. The air intake fits very well and looks very nice in the engine compartment. I bought the air intake for a reduced price of $200 and at that price I'm happy with it. But I wouldn't pay full price for it. It really cleans up the look of the engine bay and when I get fuel economy or performance I call it a win. As long as you understand (as I did prior to purchasing) that this detail alone will not turn your Explorer into a racer!
