Review on πŸ“Έ Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary DC DN Lens for Micro 4/3: Top-notch Performance and Versatility by Van Chay ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Full compliance with the manufacturer's assurances, high quality.

Bought yesterday for my OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5 Mark II. Chose from Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 25mm 1:1.8 / EZ-M2518, Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH and this lens. Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 G Aspherical (H-H025) was not considered. Ideally, it is quite possible that I would have taken Leica, if not for its price tag (+ over 15.000) and not ideal characteristics at the same time, according to which Sigma noticeably wins (for those who are interested, they will find the tests themselves). As a result, all the above advantages of Sigma won. The first non-Olympus lens in my optics kit. The first day of shooting did not disappoint. The almost complete absence of distortion, vignette, HA. Holds backlight very well. Really bright, really fast and quiet (not chirping) autofocus, really high-quality pictures at the output. At a price of about 20.000 (with a discount), a worthy product that I can safely recommend for purchase. Why didn't you choose a quite good Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 25mm 1:1.8 / EZ-M2518? f/1.4 won. This year, at a very good discount, I bought a Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH. Personal impression - the best glass with 25mm FR in the MFT system. Very high quality workmanship and output. But the predictability is lower, no matter how sorry. Autofocus misses are noticeably more frequent than on the Sigma 30mm (the background ringing with sharpness is in focus, even if the focus point is directed at the model's face). Picky about the location of light sources. With a lack of lighting and the presence of diffused light, it behaves almost perfectly. In short, shooting with a "panel" is sometimes somewhat more difficult, but the result is more interesting, the LEICA nameplate makes itself felt.

Pros
  • Compact. Light. Wide, smooth and comfortable focusing ring with long travel. Very sharp from the open. High-quality blurring of the background (someone, without any curlicues, may seem boring). 9 aperture blades. Quality hood included. Quiet focus. 100% Made in Japan (Fukushima).
Cons
  • The absence of an aperture ring, an autofocus disable button, or a programmable L-Fn is a price to pay for compactness. A small case wouldn't hurt either.
