Clap and clap again

My daughter has wanted this for years but it never appears in any stores so I finally bought it from revain.Build - not especially sturdy but not flimsy and thin either.Use - simple to use - just plug in to a wall socket, then plug your device into it. You can control two devices; the top plug with two claps, the bottom plug with three, and there's a series of lights at the bottom that tell you visually whether it has registered your claps or not. This is also where the device falters a bit. Clapping correctly can be quite tricky. The instructions say that the cadence is more important than the volume, and you have a setting where you can adjust the device's sensitivity to sound, but in practice I'm the only one in the family that can get the thing to work, and even I have to sometimes try two or three times (especially with the three clap plug). Even on the sensitive setting, my daughters and wife can't seem to get it to turn on or off consistently. We wound up putting it into a room with a lamp that is hard to get to but little used.At $20, I'd recommend that someone wanting something like this skip the Clapper and invest in one of the sets that come with wireless remotes. Sure you have to keep track of the remotes, but they work every time and you don't have to try and retry over again.

Pros
  • Switches & Dimmers
Cons
  • The size of the device can be an issue for small rooms
