I wanted to run three monitors Dell U2312HM from ASUS GT710 (2GB). Up to this point, the ASUS graphics card has only seen two monitors, although it is designed to work with three. Looking around I saw mentions of some people needing one of these adapters. Wasn't happy with the extra cost but gave this adapter a try, thinking the USB power pin would be the missing link. Much to my surprise, when I plugged this adapter in, the screen lit up just before I plugged in the USB port. I connected anyway. Now the graphics card sees all three monitors, and all of them respond to the settings. By the way, this is an expanded view. Although I still haven't seen a definitive explanation as to why this adapter is needed in the HDMI-Out/DP-In application, it works fine with it in my case
