Creative Grids are by far the BEST rulers so I always use their brand of rulers. Being new to quilting I already had a 6x24 but needed something smaller as 6x24 was sometimes too big and unwieldy for all your cuts. I received a second 6 x 12 ruler thinking it would fit, but it was too short. 6x18 is the perfect size as that extra 6 inches makes a difference as it is long enough to cut the folded footage along with everything else. 6x12 is good for really small cutting jobs but not practical as you can use 6x18 for the same cut. Take my advice: save money and go for 6x18 if you plan to buy a second line in addition to 24 1/2.
