Great UHD (4K) Android TV

I live in a very remote rural area where we don't have utilities or over-the-air TV. I could buy satellite TV but I happen to have a good 4G cell signal on my property so I get all my TV and entertainment over the internet. it supports Apple's own AirPlay protocol. All my Apple computers and mobile devices. Unfortunately, they are all over five years old. The TV only supports the latest version of AirPlay 2, which makes my old Apple devices incompatible with first generation AirPlay. Well, over time I will be upgrading my devices to take advantage of wireless streaming. Until then, I can still connect my laptop to my TV via HDMI to watch iTunes movies. Speaking of HDMI, this Sony X800H has four HDMI ports. If only one is connected, it will be automatically selected when the TV is switched on. If more than one is connected, you can choose which one to use. Video quality over HDMI is vibrant with impressive color depth. An analog component video input and an RF-F connection (wireless or wired) are also supported. If you have a preference for which HDMI input is selected when you press the TV button on the remote control, you can set this in your TV's settings. The X800H is great for internet streaming with direct support for my favorite streaming service, Revain. Prime Videos (see my photos). Most other major online streaming sites are also supported. The TV's Wi-Fi connection is easy to set up for direct Internet access for streaming and other content. Streaming from the internet is also clear and vibrant (may vary depending on the content provider and your internet bandwidth). Since the basic operating system of this TV is Android, you have the possibility to download additional apps from Google Play to improve the multimedia and external device functions of your TV. found support for USB flash drives to be excellent. I can copy videos and photos to my 128GB USB sticks and view them in very high quality. So far, it has played M4V, MP4, and MOV video files flawlessly. DRM (Digital Rights Management) encoded video files will not play. It's not the TV's fault, it's the way DRM works - you can't play it on a display it's not authorized to play on. There are two USB ports. If you have two USB drives plugged in, both will be recognized and you will be prompted to play content on either one. So with both USB sticks I can play up to 512GB of content from my USB sticks. This allows you to save about 250 movies. I was playing some very high quality 4K videos on my TV. It was pretty impressive. Colors are rich and well-saturated, which adds to the overall brightness of the image. The picture is bright and clear. I see very little artifacting on the gradients, indicating good color depth/brightness. Of course, you will see a lot of artifacts (blocking and banding) with lower resolution videos due to lossy compression. It's not because of the TV. High Dynamic Range (HDR) capabilities combined with Motionflow XR's frame interpolation produce what I would call an immersive image with a perceived frame rate of 240 (actual frame rate of 60) as explained by Sony, resulting in less Motion blur and juddering during fast movements leads to scenes. I tested some old videos from my USB drive. The TV handles old interlaced video content fairly well with no noticeable judder or distortion. Deinterlacing is never a perfect process. The fact that the television manages this quite well is remarkable for this price range. The sound quality is pretty decent. You won't hear deep, rumbling bass that rattles the windows, but you will hear enough bass to make the overall sound decent. If you want Windows to shake, the TV has an optical audio output to pass the audio portion of video content to a high-quality sound system. The remote control is well thought out and responsive. It supports voice commands, which I think interpret my voice pretty accurately. You can sign up for Google Assistant to extend the voice capabilities of the remote control. I can use the remote control to interact with the TV at a reasonable distance. If you have a universal IR remote control or your setup is a bit unique and requires a different location for the remote control sensor, the TV supports an IR remote control jack. The remote control IR sensor kit needs to be purchased separately. Finally, the X800H is a curmudgeon. With only 97 watts, the power consumption is not much higher than my laptop with 80 watts. Living off-grid in a solar-powered home, efficiency is very important to me. This TV got five stars from me for its performance. Overall, this 43-inch Sony X800H TV gets high marks from me. It is a feature-rich application with well-designed web streaming support, multiple content input methods, vivid colors, great contrast, brightness and clarity. I am very happy with it.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
