Review on Molnlycke Healthcare Silver Mepilex Ag 8x8 Square Sterile Foam Dressing - Pack of 5 by Matthew Guiney

Expensive but worth it

I used these to close the 'donor site' for a recent skin graft. Eventually (when my graft was sufficiently advanced) I used it on the graft itself. I've always noticed visible (and positive) changes in the number of open wounds and their healing. It can be worn for several days and when I take it off I have fewer and fewer wounds, smaller ones, less infected. skin that will rise. I'm guessing the silver in the pads had some sort of anti-inflammatory effect and the raised skin lines between the pads only added to that? It felt strange - I wanted to scratch/poke it - and if your wounds are the same as mine, touch = ah-no-no. My advice would therefore be to try to cover as much as possible with a pad rather than trim the pads to try to 'fit' the wound better like I did. If you can get your health insurance company to pay for this then that is the best way to go as they are very expensive. However, I don't regret spending money on it. They were among my favorite bandages - since you may have a "favorite" bandage that you'd rather not have. :) If I remember correctly, it took me a while to get Mepilex. But I think there were problems with the hurricane. (Any excuse, huh?) Anyway, I felt like the owner more than made up for it by including an extra bandage, worth about $25-$50 depending on where you buy it ! And unless global climate change is bringing us much more than we already expect, I think the number of hurricanes should be low enough that you probably won't have the same lag as me. (knock on wood, huh?)

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
