I have a microwave oven in stock - Whirlpool, model wmh32519hb. It started blowing out of the blue for a few days (not constantly, but more frequently) and eventually stopped working altogether (it stopped getting hot), gave off a burning smell when not working, and ever made a buzzing noise since . Did a little research and disassembled the top of the microwave to reveal the area where the capacitor + high voltage diode is located. The diode was obviously burned out and was undoubtedly the cause of the burnt smell mentioned above. What caused the burnout? Well I was very surprised to find a significant amount of cooking oil in the area where the diode is located - the diode itself was greasy to the touch. The theory goes that grease on the diode was the culprit for sparking and eventual burnout. I bought this diode to replace the original and can confirm that it solved my problem - the microwave works again - heating the contents as it should to the point of arcing (tested with the same contents , which sparked until the diode burned out).
