Amazingly well designed

Bought this for my daughter who is going to college this fall and is packing for the dorm. As a Revain Vine reviewer, I took this for free for myself in exchange for an unbiased and detailed review. To be honest I wasn't expecting much. This is a toilet brush and it looks simple and plain. However, I was pleasantly surprised. As an engineer I look at how well a product is designed and I seldom believe that the designer really knew how the product should be used to create a well designed, functional product. In this case, the designer knows about toilet brushes! Using silicone for the bristles is great for cleaning, durability and hygiene. This is one of the reasons why it is widely used in kitchen products. Ordinary wire-wrapped bristles will coarsen, deform, and usually become rusty over time. Silicone is easy to clean, does not impregnate anything and wipes surfaces well. The handle has a thin metal tube in the middle. I saw how the threaded ends were preserved with four pressed dimples and was disappointed. CHEAP! However, I was impressed by how the dimples on the two ends disappeared when it was all rolled up. The result is a beautiful pen. I would prefer plastic because although metal is labeled as stainless steel, depending on the type of stainless steel used, it will likely eventually corrode and look unpleasant from the commonly used toilet chemicals. The dimples can also lose their grip over time due to the sideways stress that the brush can experience when brushed hard. The plastic that hides the dimples has a small annular gap that offers no grip. You may feel a slight flex in your joints as you bend the handle. For this reason I am deducting a star. The design of the base has also been thought through with great attention to detail. There is a slot on the side for liquid drainage and air intake, but all of this can also be easily disassembled for a more thorough cleaning. There is good ventilation around the brush so that any liquid evaporates. In any case, the brush is never submerged in liquid as the slotted holder is always above the surface of any liquid that may collect in the base. This is one to watch; Don't let the base get too crowded if you use the brush frequently! The brush head slides easily into the base so it stands straight. As you lift the brush, the base may rise about an inch off the ground and then fall, but only occasionally. To a lesser extent when wet. If you're looking for a simple, unobtrusive, plastic toilet brush that will likely last a long time with normal use, I'd recommend this one.
