This is not a 40x zoom, it is a 7-8x zoom. I have several scopes, I tested them. He has a beautiful picture. The phone holder is very durable but if you want to use it I recommend buying another tripod as the one that comes with it is flimsy. The instruction manual and box could have been a lot better and it didn't take much effort. Overall good for the price. The monocular itself is of good quality despite the false advertising.
