Whipped with a small zippered pocket.
The 8 microSD and 6+2 microSD/SDCard versions securely hold any cards I insert. The lanyard slot is a bit tight but I managed to get it through both holders. I haven't tried a writable surface as any media that I haven't already loaded into the device tends to spin rather quickly.
