I tried to "disconnect" from the cable company as much as possible. I live in Los Angeles and have TWC. I've rented several modems over the years and I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent on them. The main reason I've rented for so long is the implied support. If something goes wrong with a unit, you can call a TWC technician or take it to your local office for replacement. But for $100 I decided to try it for a week before returning the rented modem. And if for some reason the modem I bought breaks down, I can always come back to TWC and rent another one. It's been two months and so far so good! The speeds are great and I don't have to restart the hardware as often. The setup process was a little jittery, but that's because TWC needs to detect and register a new modem. There are a few posts online to help you, but the bottom line is you'll have to wait up to a good hour+ for registration to take place. Just in case, this device does not pass a Wi-Fi signal and does not have more than one Ethernet output port. So if you connect more than one device directly to the modem or need Wi-Fi, make sure you use a Wi-Fi router with that modem. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
