The Status Module is probably optional, but I just wanted it in case I needed it in the future. It lets me know what mode the charging system is in and change it if needed. Basically, I can see it's in mode and working fine. This is a simple plug-in device with a foam tape holder. I'd love a device with a digital voltage and charge level display that would look nice in the living room, but that'll do. This is not a device I would want to install in an outdoor living area. I installed it under the sink next to my charger/power bank.
