Review on Focusrite Clarett 4 Out Audio Interface by Jeff Chisholm

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Outstanding sound quality.

I've had it for a few months now. I replaced an old first generation Scarlett 18i8. I think the sound quality is slightly better but not a significant change (used for Adam A7X monitors). I find the included Focusrite control software easier to use than the software. who accompanied Scarlett. Easily create different mixes for headphones and monitors. The communication is good. There are two XLR inputs on the front and the rest on the back. Phantom power can be applied to inputs 1-4 and/or 5-8, but you cannot independently supply phantom power to just one input. Groups of 4 only. I like the level meter. This allows me to determine my input level more easily than with the old Scarlett. The "Air" preamp setting has too much high end for my taste, so I don't use it. To be honest I don't quite understand why people make such a fuss about it (it's using AKG c214 and c414). I noticed that there is a crackle when adjusting the input gain controls and monitor volume control. If I don't touch the handles, there is no sound. Finally, the device generates a lot of heat compared to my previous interface. In general I am satisfied with the purchase. Great connectivity, great sound and very easy to set up and use in minutes.
