The product description is incorrect as of 12/22/18 See attached photos of the product received Tool engraving: SIR0625P16 5/ 8 " 2302- 0625 Threaded Insert Type: 16IR Insert Screw: M3.5x8 Insert Screw: Torx T15 Other Engraved Numbers: 17B1078 No anvil, insert mounts directly to tool Nominal shank size 5/8"". Actual size 0.623". Length 7". There are three faces at 90 degree intervals. The back of the tool, opposite the cutting contact point, is round. Space Between Faces 0.584" Space Between Face and Face 0.603" The absolute minimum tool and insert bore is inserted without a 0.73" gap. The minimum practical thread hole diameter is 0.75 inch. The quality of the instrument meets the expectations of a good imported instrument. It comes in a typical two-piece plastic tube with a stud and a 16IR AG60 carbide. insert and a Torx T15 screwdriver. The plastic case was marked as made in China. The instrument itself does not indicate the country of origin. The tool is ground and smooth with a high quality black oxide finish. Qualitative hardness testing of the tool with an automatic center punch and visual analysis shows that it resembles a ground and unhardened 0.625 inch O1 tool steel blank. As with any other imported tool, you can get good ones. Good ones don't come cheap. It's in the mid-range (at the right price point and compared to Dorian) and considering it doesn't have an anvil, it's reasonable. This seems like the right value compared to the low price of imported instruments and their apparent quality (or lack thereof). I can't even test the maximum stiffness of the tool to comment on this. The quality of the inserts will depend on the quality you purchase to fit the mandrel and I expect them to work satisfactorily in my home workshop.
