I needed a desktop wireless adapter in case my internet goes down so I can connect to my phone's hotspot. The Hawking HW17ACU is very fast - I can connect to my home WiFi at 1.3Gbps, which is technically just as fast/faster than my 1Gbps wired connection. It heats up during use, I haven't tried it for a very long time, so I don't know if heat will be an issue if used for a long time. You'll also need an extension cord for the desktop; I suspect most will use it with a laptop. We immediately notice that the plastic around the metal connector is quite wide; it won't fit next to a flash drive on most laptops. It will likely work in a USB hub, although this may limit opening the antenna. The antenna probably helps connect at high speeds, but the antenna feels fragile when open - I would be very careful not to hit it. Overall I think this is good value for money and works well at a fairly close distance from a Wi-Fi hotspot (<30ft).
