Review on Safety Seal KAP30 String Storage by John Goerge

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Saved 2 tires in the last 1.5 years.

We have two cars in our family, both with run-flat tyres. As you may know, no one wants to fix an RFT for grip reasons (feared you had a flat tire and caused severe sidewall wear). In my case, a nail hole costs $300 for a tire change. I got my first nail when the car's tire had under 5,000 miles - still brand new. Nobody would even touch him. Received this set and thought it had good reviews so worth a try. 30,000 km driven, still holding up. I might have 10-20k left on these tires before they need to be replaced but I am blown away by how well sealed they are. Coming back to the present, this week another car had a screw failure in another car's RFT. The tire has 30,000 miles on it but still has a lot of threads - good Michelin quality. I did the same - I connected it to this kit. Time will tell if this plugin will be as successful as my first one, but it has already paid off. I still have 28 plugs left, I hope I won't need them anytime soon. But if I still had a puncture, I would go for this kit. If I had the equipment to remove the tire then a plug and patch would undoubtedly be the best option; but if they don't fix a perfectly good flat tire in a safe place, I have no choice. Please be careful not to use them if the holes are near or in the sidewall as this could result in a catastrophic blowout. I saw a photo on this site of someone fixing the side panels - just don't do it. Be sensible, remember that this repair is worse than plug and patch and should never be used unless it is safe, even for superior methods. Your life isn't worth $100-$500 for things that shouldn't be fixed with this kit. It has its uses, as I have in my cases, but sometimes a flat tire is beyond repair.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Not everything fits
