Review on πŸ”§ WARN 101575 Handheld Portable Drill Winch: 40 Ft Synthetic Rope, 750 lbs Pulling Capacity - Gray by Lance Levatte

The Warn winch is excellent!

I've been looking at the ads and pictures and thought it looks good but maybe a little useless. But that's a warning, so it's worth a look. It arrived today and I took it to the workshop to see what I have and everything is fine. I set up my ramp and simulated the situation where I had to load my non-working snowblower up a steep ramp and into my service vehicle. I turned it on at the ramp with a 20 year old 2 speed cordless drill - at high speed. No voltage. It's faster than I expected and a variable speed drill is a smart choice. Of course we need to be able to lower what we are lifting or pulling and contrary to most opinions this little winch works great in reverse to get the snowblower down the ramp safely. When you're done, you'll need to gently wind the cable onto the spool, and a viewing window allows you to keep an eye on the cable laid on the spool. Granted, this is day one so can't comment on durability yet, but the frame and all mounting points are steel. This is a well made piece. The plastic lid and handle are a nice touch. The clutch engages and disengages with a distinct click, as you'd expect from Warn. From the way he hoisted my 24-inch two-speed supercharger up the ramp, I know he'll do what I need. That protects your back. Note that it is NOT sold as a hoist. Elevator. But I'm not here to tell you what to do with yours. I know the winch speed is very controllable and practical. She lifted my 220-pound fan a few inches so I could change a wheel, and the dynamic brake held the weight without slipping. And then with the drill in reverse, it gently lowers the blower. I haven't tested this to the 500lb limit and my tasks don't really involve that much weight. This is definitely the right tool for me.
