Review on Bodum Brazil French Press Coffee Kitchen & Dining by Amy Collins

Brews delicious coffee compared to a filter coffee maker!

I got more serious about coffee a few years ago after only drinking Folgers and Maxwell House (which I still drink in the mornings before work due to the convenience and price). I started experimenting with flavors and then bought a coffee grinder to grind different types of beans. After hearing that a French Press makes great coffee I decided to give it a try as Bodum seems to be the biggest French Press brand in Europe. I made 12 ounces of coffee this morning using the coffee beans you get from Aldi a few times. The first time I brewed for 5 minutes and the second time I tried to brew for 7 minutes. I definitely think 7 minutes is better for a light to medium roast. The taste is definitely unique compared to a filter coffee machine. It has a richer flavor, likely due to the oils from the coffee beans that remain in the coffee after brewing. In a drip coffee maker, the oils are trapped in the filter, so you don't capture that aspect of the flavor. I'm not sure if drip coffee makers are any worse than a french press, but I'd say each has their own unique flavor. One more note about grinding. For those of you using a small Hamilton Beach electronic grinder (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FBYRMQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1), I've ground it up to 4th grade with beans -Filled the cup mark and grind it by setting the coffee maker to 4 cups. Then, using the scoop that came with the French Press, I added 3 scoops of ground coffee to the French Press with 12 ounces (1.5 cups) of water. It seemed to help. If you prefer stronger coffee, you can use more. I like light to medium strength so this was perfect for me.
