Our old house lacks storage space and I used plastic shoe boxes on the closet shelves and wire mesh on the closet floor, but because I couldn't see all my shoes I didn't really know what I had! It's amazing how many pairs of black shoes I've had! I stacked two and by using the space under the bottom shelf for sandals I can store 21 pairs of shoes in plain sight in the upstairs hallway where most of my clothes are kept. (My husband inherited our bedroom closet!) If we remodel our daughter's old upstairs bedroom and add more storage and a closet, they will no longer be needed and someone else can put them to good use. Now I'm very happy with that decision and I think they'll be great in the dressing room.
