Fly a kite if you don't like it

When you buy a car you will get 2 keys. Fast forward a few years and the plastic/rubber buttons will start to loosen and eventually fall off completely, rendering your button bliss useless. You can do what I did and use the spare key as a backup, but after 6 years of owning the car the rubber even on my back has torn a bit. Call the dealer, WTH, 250 for one key then another 100 for the second? 350 for new keys? They tell me the key itself costs 75 grand and cutting the key another 75 and programming another 100 so I google it. I find out: So you can buy a case, replace the guts and everything should work, wait. . They say I can replace the $350 fee PLUS the merchant commission with a simple $20 cover, don't believe that. I assure you my friend, this thing works like bee knees. With a little skill and care, I was able to take the pieces apart and put them back together. Some videos on You Tube said you need to file the blade and change the side of the key but I found this bug was 100% workable. The first one took 20 minutes, I was very careful not to damage the board, then when I did the second one it was done in 3 minutes. Buy, do it yourself and save money. Yes, this is not OEM and you must ensure the spring is installed correctly. This isn't rocket science, however, and unless you can figure out how to replace this unit, don't drive. 10 stars because I saved over $300!

Pros
  • Best replacement for broken or worn keys or great for an extra key
Cons
  • Boring package
