The material on the outside is almost like a raincoat. It is heavy and non-porous, and fantastic for stopping wind! This is not a soft fluffy coat by any means, but a definite wirk coat, and I love it! The heating is great and keeps my core body parts very warm. The coat is well made and actually quite warm even without turning on the heat. I like how the heat control button is on the inside of this coat! I have another vest from another company where the button is on the outside, and it's very distracting trying to walk in the dark or drive at night with it on. This coat totally solves that issue-thank you for smart design!The only thing I have a negative on with this coat is the front double zipper. It takes me extra time to get it zipped or unzipped at the bottom.I am very happy with this purchase!
