Review on Melissa & Doug Rainbow Stacker: Enhancing Learning with Wooden Rings by Prem Reyel

The toy has potential safety issues

When I bought this product I read about the Melissa and Doug toys and didn't want to buy my little one a rainbow stacker toy. I specifically wanted a quality wooden toy and it had decent reviews and seemed reasonable (perhaps too reasonable for the price). When it arrived: The blocks were vibrant and rich colors. Our little one loved it. The sticker on the bottom was a bit difficult to remove (unusually sticky) The inside of the rig was not finished (rough edges not fully sanded or painted) After a few days of use: the rig started to crack and I started to wonder, whether the paint would be safe if chipped. This led to more research into Melissa and Doug's toys and paints and their factories in China that make these toys, and a recall that took place about 10 years ago due to toxic chemicals in these toys. I also discovered that Melissa and Doug's toys aren't actually solid wood, but rather plywood, which has additional chemicals that I don't want my child to be exposed to.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Little things
