Amazing watercolors that shine!

I recently purchased three sets of Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. I went for the combo listing because it's about $8 a set, which is a lot for fine art quality watercolors. Each set contains full-size trays measuring approximately 1.5" x 1". All pans are individually numbered on the bottom for product identification and lend themselves to custom replacement parts that are available. The pots are in a cardboard box with a pallet that can be easily removed. I cut off the end of each one to make it easier to slide them out. All of these watercolors have an opaque finish, unlike regular watercolors, and are perfect for illustrations and work where you don't create multiple layers of paint. The Star Colors contain a range of opaque metallic gold tones and work well on dark and light papers. Lighter gold is a great alternative to silver. The Pearl palette includes pastels in primary and secondary tones and works best on light paper as all colors look about the same on dark paper but can be good for bringing out other colors. darker colors. Finally there are Gem Colors and they are honestly the best set in terms of opacity and pigment. They lay out snugly and beautifully, but look particularly brilliant on dark paper. The yellow color of the set is comparable to Finetec Arabic Gold, popular with calligraphers. All palettes require you to work with and/or prime the brush to pick up colors. Some people recommend misting the palette with a small sprayer, which I'd like to try. In general, these colors are great for accenting and highlighting artwork. I would highly recommend them to artists who are on a budget but are looking for a quality metallic watercolor set.
