Beautiful shimmering colors

These were on my wish list and I was delighted to receive them. I'm new to watercolor painting but I find Japanese/Gansai to be my favorite type of watercolor paint. Kuretake is a good brand (MozArt is another favorite brand of mine). There are only 2 color repeats in this stack of 3 sets (my photo shows all colors with no repeat. They are equally beautiful in both light fill and opaque color. Also great for detail and highlights. The panels are huge. I find that easy to use with both water…

Four stars is good for painting

I don't usually write four star reviews. Either I like something or I don't like it. but I really think it's only a 4 star product. Nice. A large pack of 48 colors is more beautiful. I ordered three packs so I have pearl colors, star colors and gem colors and I already have a set of 48 colors. If I could go back I would probably just order the pearl colors. All sets have repeating colors. #906 white gold is available in star colors, pearl colors and a 48 piece set. No. 903, Muted Gold in Starry

Take the time to really activate the color.

They are a real pleasure to use. They require lots of water and mixing to activate properly. It took a little fiddling with them to realize that they need to be fully activated to really get the pearly look right on paper. With normal watercolor paints, it is usually sufficient to just moisten the brush and then dip something into the cake. The brush absorbs pigment and you can paint. With these metallic and pearlescent paints, the pigment will be absorbed but the pearlescent effect will not…

Amazing watercolors that shine!

I recently purchased three sets of Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. I went for the combo listing because it's about $8 a set, which is a lot for fine art quality watercolors. Each set contains full-size trays measuring approximately 1.5" x 1". All pans are individually numbered on the bottom for product identification and lend themselves to custom replacement parts that are available. The pots are in a cardboard box with a pallet that can be easily removed. I cut off the end of each one to…

Every artist needs ALL of these colors!

Kuretake is by far my favorite watercolor metallic. Whether I'm looking for saturated, rich pigments that blend with any other material, or just need a touch of pearlescent to bring light to a darker area of a painting, each set delivers consistent color and layering. Pearls have a pearly luster with a lighter underside. The gems, all bright and colorful, can stand alone or be layered on top of one color to enhance the colors. The golden ones are definitely my favorite. The gold and silver are…

Beautiful watercolors, I want everything!

My review mainly relates to my photos that I have posted. I just love these watercolors and probably won't buy anything else. They are very pigmented, very luscious and blend like a dream. I've tried to capture the pearly and iridescent qualities with photos but they don't do these colors justice at all! You will receive three sets of color capsules in matching colors and properties. For my paintings, I made patterns from each set individually on standard watercolor paper. I have labeled each…

NICE BUT: Arts, paints and crafts supplies

Okay, pros and cons: First cons: These paints are good, but the tubes aren't even half full. I can't tell how thick the bottom of the tray is yet, it can be less than half full (ladies, think of eye makeup trays that look deep but aren't really and you'll see what I think). full, barely covering the ground. When you think of a pot or half-pot of water paint, you usually think of a pot that has at least half an inch of paint in the pan or tub. Not with these. The plastic trays they come in are a
