The top of this desk is not smooth. This makes writing on it very difficult and you have to have a book or something under to achieve a smooth writing experience. This might not be a big issue for some people but to me it is. I use with my children for school work and when you are trying to teach a 5 year old to write proper, this desk makes it hard. I am also a writer and do a lot of writing notes on the side. I do use lose paper because I am a left handed person and notebooks are not the easiest to write with. I face this issue with writing on this desk and do not like it.Beside from that, I do find the size great. It is plenty of space for our books, computers, and other materials all at once. It is sturdy metal frame and even the top is metal, not wood. The leg room is great for myself and all my kids at the same time.I like the general look of the desk. I purchased to fit into my living room for us all. I did purchase the black. I like the desk very much for all its other qualities beside from the writing. I just wish the top was a smooth coating.
