NEIKO 52911A Digital Infrared Thermometer is a useful temperature checking tool for a variety of household needs: in my oven, smoke/grill proof in cold weather, car for safe operation, sealing around doors/windows in winter, etc When I press the trigger, an infrared beam touches the surface and records the temperature, and I release the button. Other buttons allow you to scroll through after a few measurements to see the max temp, average temp and min temp in an area like my smoker. The readings seem fairly accurate compared to other analog sensors for my oven, smoker, etc. The thermometer has more settings/details/buttons to accommodate different types of surfaces where emissivity/reflectance, especially shiny surfaces, affect the accuracy of temperature readings. It's overkill for my use, but available when needed and simple enough to set values from a spreadsheet in a small manual. A bonus is the analog thermometer. Perfect for examining the inside of a roast turkey so it can be safely cooked, or expensive prime ribs for proper doneness, or checking the water temperature before yeast has risen to make bread, etc. All in all a great combination.
