I bought this Ram mount for my HD Road King Special to be able to use the navigation function of the Samsung Galaxy S9 while driving. I am considering returning this product for a number of reasons. 1) Ubolt base and attachment system are made of hard plastic. So if you don't want the chrome or black paint to peel off your handlebars on your first few rides (if you're using a handlebar mount), you'll need to add something between the mounts. I will also say that one of the ends of the Ubolt did not go through the cut hole of the plastic ball mount. One end slips (correctly cut to accommodate the end of the bolt) and the other wasn't wide enough. So I spent about 10 minutes swinging it and getting it to move around the handlebars. Not a very well designed part (or maybe it's the product quality control). I will say that once I had everything in place, the base mount became solid when tightening the nuts and didn't seem to move much more than at the micro-movement and vibration level (see my comment on color fading). ).2) It won't fit the phone when using an Otterbox case (I have a small Otterbox case, not a large industrial style case). I'm not sure why they don't allow one of the most popular phone cases ever made, but that doesn't mean it will fit. I just hope all the positive comments about how they are designed/made can cover this. Disappointing but not really part of my 1 star rating. I just want people to be aware of this if they plan on using a Galaxy phone with an Otterbox case (you have to remove the case every time). Biggest issue why I'm considering returning an item: 3) The Samsung Galaxy S9 doesn't fit properly (even without an Otterbox) in an X frame. When evenly placed in the X-Frame, the X-Frame's rubber feet make contact with the power and volume buttons. You know what happens when you press both buttons and touch the Bixby button (which is known to be near the volume buttons)? Reset to factory settings. While fiddling with the phone and trying to get it to stop pressing the volume and power buttons, I accidentally touched the Bixby button, which took me to the factory reset screen. Not funny. The ONLY way to get this to work was to slide the phone almost all the way down onto the X frame. Then 75% of the phone is above the X-frame and 25% below it. At this point, the elastic (which keeps your phone in place permanently) is no good. I used the Ram Mount website to find this exact system for my phone. How they can say it's for Samsung Galaxy I have no idea. I was about to write to return this item but found that when I use the basic Otterbox case (no protective part, rubber case) all my buttons are protected. This way I can properly place the phone in X. I'm either using part of my Otterbox and can't access the power/volume buttons (and I have to remove the protective rubber cover every time) or I'm sliding the phone all the way down the X-frame (at this point I don't really have protection and a solid "holding power"). Should I send it back or do I just wrap it up with the plastic part of my Otterbox case? Not sure which route I'm going to take but thought I'd save some Samsung users time and hassle. I haven't seen any real comments on the S9 here. Hope to help some people.
