Buyers Beware Best Propane Torches

Buyers Beware. I buy Revain for about $100 a month and don't write reviews unless something is seriously wrong. This is my second negative review in six years. The Bernzomatic burner worked for about 1.5 hours, after which it went out. I called Bernzomatic customer service and they offered to vacuum the hose as my issue sounded like something was restricting the air/propane flow. In short, see photo. This product may have a manufacturing defect or the instructions may not be complete. The flashlight doesn't seem to have good design features: the air mixes under the black handle, not just at the bottom of the tube. Air/propane mixture subjected to wind pressure. The overheating anti-melt protection function was good. The gasket on the female end of the handle that connects to the propane tank is a cork-like natural fiber that can peel. The pipe melted when I specifically checked as below to isolate the scavenging problem, which I thought was the ratio and pressure of the air/propane mix. Follow the sequence of actions to determine if the burner cannot be used: 1. Suction the burner tube from below with a vacuum in a container with good suction power. Seal the bottom of the tube with a rag to ensure strong suction from the bottom of the tube.2. Flush the tube with water introduced into the bottom end of the tube with the propane valve closed.3. Let the burner dry under the blazing sun for two days.4. Tested tube is completely dry.5. The tested piezo starter showed a good spark when viewed from the bottom of the tube.6. He examined the tube with a flashlight. The pipe inside looked clean.7. Turn the black hose handle upside down and fully open the propane valve.8. A straight sewing pin was used for hemming to ensure the propane port in the valve body is not clogged.9. Pour about 2 ounces of rubbing alcohol into the propane fitting to remove any moisture and make sure the rubbing alcohol flows freely through the propane valve body. Let the alcohol evaporate.11. Replaced the natural material gasket on the female end of the burner with a synthetic, non-peeling propane tank gasket to prevent leakage during long term storage.12. Attached a new propane tank to the burner and checked for leaks.13. Attempting to light a burner in a windless garage. The flashlight goes out approx. one second after lit.14. I decided to experiment with reducing the airflow into the tube by putting duct tape on two of the four air intakes at the base of the black handle. The flashlight should burn for about three seconds.15. I sealed all four air intakes under the black handle.16. He lit the torch and burned for about twenty seconds. 17. Used a torch to burn the weeds for about 30 seconds. 18. Two of the four air intakes are open. The burner worked continuously, never went out, but was too hot for the tube. The flashlight was used for about two minutes. My experiment resulted in the torch being too hot and overheating the pipe above the calculated safe temperature. The lower part of the burner has melted. See photo.19. Propane gas valve completely disassembled, photographed and written this review. Seller's Comment: Good service. Fast service. Five Star Rating. I believe it was a real Bernzomatic burner. Manufacture date numbers on the valve body 17850 0217. Comment on Bernzomatic: I think you have some issues that you should check: Improve the user manual to include re-lighting details and troubleshooting information, product design, production quality control and make sure a Chinese company doesn't. They don't spend your product on Revain and sell bullshit. I would also advise contacting customer service so they can provide replacement service promptly rather than guessing what may be wrong. The user manual should be improved to include clear safety instructions including eye protection from overheated exploding rocks, detailed troubleshooting instructions, and detailed cleaning and maintenance instructions. Whether the product was purchased online or from a retail store, you must provide repair or replacement service. Bad customer service! Buyer Comment: I would not risk this product no matter how many good reviews you read. I did some internet research and settled on the Greenwood part number 91037 Harbor Freight weed killer. Good results in action. Beautiful design features. The price is lower than the Bernzomatic burner. I bought a Greenwood flare hose adapter to go from a twenty pound propane tank to a one pound disposable propane tank for fifteen dollars. I can get a belt clip to hang a one pound propane bottle on my belt. I hope this long review helps everyone.
