I am a mixer user and abuse it. I originally bought one of these about three years ago (maybe more) and use it often for my (advanced hobby) baking. Last spring, while making a batch of my grandmother's extra thick chocolate frosting, one of my upper arms broke. I sealed it with duct tape, and like a champ, the patched mixer blade continued to work. I had some money, so I decided to treat myself and buy a real KitchenAid mixing knife. Well, to be honest, it sucked. Yes, it was metal, but I want those scraper blades! I am too lazy! There was only a thin rubber scraper on the KitchenAid blade that barely did its job. I had to stop the blender and scrape down the sides of the bowl - how awkward! I trailed behind and didn't really enjoy using it until the rubber spatula came loose from the blender blade! I had to use some zip ties from hot dog bun bags to reattach the blade to the paddle to finish the job. Then I went back to the product I liked the most: THIS. I have ordered another of these paddles and I am back in business! I love this one and if mine breaks again I will be ordering more of this design!
