Review on πŸ’ͺ Enhanced Power Steering Unit: Cardone 96-7828 Delivers Optimal Performance by Stephen Chowdary

Revainrating 1 out of 5

It's true, all that glitters is not gold!

I was very excited when I found a new Cardone PS pump at Revain with a shiny zinc reservoir for my Chevy truck and for 1/4 the cost of an OEM pump. I thought I stumbled upon gold! So I ordered it and unfortunately the best part was the shiny zinc coating on the tank. First off, the Cardone pump pictures on Revain are not what I got. I received 3 faulty Cardone pumps and none of them looked like the Revain photos. Actually the pictures are identical to the ones on the ACDelco site, even the lid looked the same as on the Delco site so I bought a Cardone pump. I figured someone must have done this for Delco (as far as I know all Delco products are sold and manufactured/rebuilt to Delco's specifications) and since it looked identical and Cardone is a well known company that refurbishes a lot of things for Delco, I did i thought. You will need to make a new pump for Delco as they look the same in the pictures. However, my assumption was wrong. Firstly all 3 pumps had caps that did not match the pictures which is not a deal breaker but all caps had a huge "donut" silicone gasket in the cap which made it impossible to tighten without damaging the cap , and I could never tell when the thing was tightened, it just rotated 360 degrees regardless of the locking mechanism. Not a deal breaker either, I'll just use the OEM cap, wrong! The OEM cap on the OEM canister has a stop and clicks when it hits the stop. So I tried the OEM cap on the Cardone tank, it went all the way, but the cap would not close and just flopped. The biggest problem, however, was that the return hose on the back of the tank was loose on all three pumps. The pipe should be brazed in 2 places, 1st place where it enters the tank and 2nd place to support the pipe so the vibration doesn't break it. 2 of them did not have secondary soldering, and on the 3rd pump someone tried to solder. I could never understand how the pictures on Revain were identical to Delco products and what I got was so different hmmm. I can't say much about the quality of the pump itself as I wouldn't take the time to install it with the tank and lid if there were obvious manufacturing defects. Anyway I gave up the idea of having a new pump with a shiny new zinc plated reservoir and I ended up rebuilding the old pump with Revain's Delco rebuild kit for about $16 and repainting my old reservoir, what i had to do get started. and saved me a lot of time and a big headache. A little more history: My son, who has the same truck, more money and less time than me, ordered a replacement pump from ACDelco OEM and it was identical to the Cardone pump pictures on Revain and on the Cardones website. Very interesting
