Review on Simonds American Pattern Rectangular Thickness by Justin Butler

Sad day for Simonds quality

Simonds quality is NOT what it used to be. Unfortunately, the Simonds files are no longer made in the USA. The ones I just bought (and returned) were stamped 'Made in Honduras'. Symonds doesn't even put his name on his files anymore. There's something wrong with a company that doesn't take pride in their product enough to put their name on it. The Simonds files I purchased were soft, warped, deformed, or curled. Definitely NOT the quality of the US made files I took for granted from Simonds. In my work in the machine shop I use some hand files. I'm old enough to know how to file, how to properly clean a file, and how to properly care for a file. I also understand the importance and necessity of using a quality file that is straight and flat. I'm going to start hoarding every used US made Simonds and Nicholson file I can find (as many others are already doing) and then get them to me. locked up. As I said, this is a sad day for American production and Symonds in particular!

Pros
  • Rugged industrial quality for professionals and serious users
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
