Inaccurate description

This item states it is for 2005 and newer f250, f350 4x4 models. I have a 2010 f-250 4x4 XL. On inspection it looks very similar to the OTC 6697 but the bore size is incorrect and the tool will not fit the spindle to place the seals properly. I've read other reviews of how people got around this problem by grinding down the inside of the bore and it works fine because other sizes are fine. This is nonsense. I've been waiting an extra week for this tool and it doesn't fit. I'm not going to spend half a day working and I don't know how many Dremel attachments to burn through and modify what should fit from the factory. Buy once, cry once, the OTC tool is only around $20-$30 and it's perfect, and with Prime it'll be at your door the next day. Thank goodness for Revain, the prices here are a little higher from legitimate sellers, but good feedback can help you avoid these mistakes. Don't be stupid like me, read the comments first. I am especially grateful to the customer service team for protecting you from this type of nonsense that you wouldn't otherwise get from other online stores like RA. I've attached a picture of the axle with the old seal in the correct position showing how the tool won't fit on the spindle to highlight the diameter issues. It seems like quite a big oversight to claim that it will fit 15 years of different f250 models. Not sure if the axle spindle size differs between XL and XLT models or maybe something like that? I know for a fact that attempting to fit this smaller diameter hole onto a tapered shaft is sure to result in much obscenity and considerable trouble. I'd love to get more information from people who have had this work and see what's different in their setup, maybe I'm missing something or it only works on the f-350, something like that, not sure.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
