As others have said this is a very soft soft vinyl ball. One thing that surprised us was that the weight of the ball was a bit lighter than expected. So when we were playing ball we could throw them farther (than other vinyl balls) and they would throw in a straight line instead of at a weird angle. So we are very satisfied. In terms of weight, I can't imagine anyone really caring about a three year old who leaves them and hurts anyone or anything. That seems really unbelievable. We use them for my daughter who is learning to throw up for indoor training to reduce her movement. Even if I give her the strongest throw, I can easily catch her at close range and don't have to worry about accidents if I miss. They look solid the way they are.
