The biggest problem I have here is the light source. It's just a cheap 20-watt bulb in a black case that doesn't reflect or direct the light until it hits the top lens. It's getting hot. It's not bright enough for the top two magnifications. I had to use a laser pointer or other light source to see the metal samples. They could supply long-life LEDs here that are cooler and direct the light better. Second problem; the eyepieces cannot prevent the eyes/eyelashes from being pressed against the lens, which is annoying and impairs vision. Other scopes have rubber grips that adjust to the shape of your face. The third problem; Oil. The oil was in a tiny bottle, but almost half of it leaked out and spread all over the scope's vinyl cover. I had to wash with detergent in the sink and dry in the sun. The fourth problem; They gave me 2 tiny round pieces of COLORED glass. For what reason? They are almost useless as slides, as they make the picture even darker and impossible to work with. Why not just send in some full size rectangular slides? I mean I spent more than a day's wages to buy this and I don't even have slides. ---- What's so good about it? Well the x/y axis that moves the slides is fine. It has a spring arm to accommodate standard slides for play-free movement in all directions. The focus knobs are great. The optics are great. I really wonder if anyone does a deeper field of field as this focuses on things with such annoying precision that you can't see anything but a very specific depth. This makes it almost impossible to get good photos of most of my samples, which are sometimes rather spherical. A grain of salt is visible from above, but the 1/4 cube with a grain below is poorly focused. This is a very narrow range and gets worse at higher magnifications! I may have even damaged the 2000x lens as a result, as far as I know, as some elements cannot be viewed with a slide.
