I think it's great for most pets. My cat (his name is Stevie, but we don't call him Doofenshmirtz for nothing) found a way to trick him. I installed two of them. Well, the fat man realized that as long as he kept his head out of range of the transponder, he could use his hind legs to knock things off the counter or sit on my pillow. I had to increase the range - luckily there are many different ranges.
