Disappointed with Anchors

I am so confused about this product and how it works. I tried to hang a curtain rod with it. When I put the anchor in the wall and pulled out the screw, everything came out. I would not recommend this product. It seems like an anchor needs an anchor. It was advertised as if it would open into the wall. But that's not the case.
