First of all I am a radio enthusiast I have a ton of different types from Baofengs to Motorolas. For $15 you can get a programmable HT that operates in the 400-480MHz band. My only complaint out of the box is that the 16 channels aren't really FRS frequencies so you have to be careful with that and reprogram them. In addition, they also have every imaginable CTC and DCS code, so you can be sure that standard Walmart walkie-talkies can't keep up and hear your conversation. and if that's not enough, it has 9 different scrambling modes to give you extra privacy. They appear to be fairly durable and good quality for the money. If you know how to code and want something that will outlast the kids and give you some privacy, this is the way to go. Perfect for camping or vacation
