2014 Subaru Forester. Radio, GPS and fan switched off. Insert a new 9v max battery which read about 9.7 volts. I disconnected the battery and then found that the wire connector on the back was corroded so I had to go to an auto parts store to get a new one. 9V probably left for 2 hours. After installing a new car battery, the radio settings disappeared. The 9V battery dropped to 8.3V. Maybe 2 hours is too long. I also saw a spark when I accidentally hit the end of the wire with a screwdriver and shorted it out. There are no instructions as to how long it will keep the memory alive. I don't know if the problem was a short circuit. I am writing this to warn anyone interested in finding out about these issues before attempting to return a car battery quickly if you may be having problems.
