Not the highest quality. I remember Vega

Vega used to pretty much rule the world of vegan protein powders. I remember years ago this was one of the top vegan tasting options; I remember there was a lot of good in there and there was no junk. Either my memory is failing me and covered Vega in gold dust, or I've been spoiled with better options since then. Here's the thing: There are many other vegan protein brands out there now that are simply better quality, better price, better taste, and cleaner ingredients than Vega, sorry. Although it seems that their formula has not changed at all. Over the past few years (it's almost identical to the Vega Sport chocolate box I've had since 2016) I've noticed one particular thing: They've put "natural flavors" on their label. I got their Vanilla Sport ingredient label from a few years ago and while it was quite keen on the fake maple vanilla flavor, it tasted way better than the current chocolate flavor and the "flavors" in the vanilla came at the end out of here. the ingredients list, after all the green powders, probiotics, etc. In this current dip, natural flavors are listed as the THIRD ingredient after pea protein and cocoa powder, ahead of all the other decent stuff here! Natural flavors have become a legal loophole for companies to exploit ingredient freedom and can contain over 600 different substances that are actually not natural at all and/or cause food allergies in many people. When a company puts that vague term at the top of their list of ingredients, ahead of all the things the product is actually used for, I get the immediate impression that they've succumbed to the corruption of mass production, are lazy, and cut corners. They back their product with useless flavors and chemicals instead of quality whole ingredients and are just plain unfair to consumers. And finally, this stuff tastes worse than other pea protein powders that do NOT have any ambiguous flavors! What happened to you Vega? Have you always been this shabby and I just didn't notice? The "good things" here are in VERY meager amounts and not really enough to benefit your body. Alfalfa, tart cherries, beets, turmeric, capsicum, and probiotics are present in such microscopic amounts that you don't actually get any nutrients from them, and their presence doesn't guarantee a higher price tag for the product, since the company didn't supply Vega to give you fad marketing fees and a well-known brand because they still hold the "boogie" place card in the protein powder realm. At the moment I'd rather support a smaller, clean company and won't miss any taste in the process.

Pros
  • being a handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
