The cups are beautiful. The white porcelain finish is perfect. I'm deducting stars because of design and intended use. I enjoy my drink very hot and a mug is much better than a cup; The mug keeps the temperature warm longer because it has high and thick walls. The design of this mug is too wide at the base. So when I'm drinking, I have to tilt my head back to get the liquid flowing or to fill the cup completely. A regular cup has a straight design, and if you tilt the cup more than you tilt your head back, the liquid will start pouring straight out. With a broad base, the stroke is double; tilt your head and cup until the liquid comes out of the deep end. Temperature was another issue we had to deal with. Usually, a person enjoys the warmth of the mug and likes to hold the mug with both hands. I can use a cup for hot coffee, but not because of the pleasant feeling of hot tea. I poured hot water and tea into a cup and the china got so hot I couldn't hold it. Like I said, I like to drink hot. I had to wait a long time before I could touch the cup. I'm not a porcelain specialist; I don't know why this particular mug is getting so hot, but my other mugs can be treated. You are not my favorite; 3 stars because they are beautiful. When I complained about this, my husband asked me if they were for soup.
