I hate rings on my furniture so I've always been a bit pushy about using coasters around my house. I bought this to put in the center of my kitchen table so I don't have to throw separate coasters at people to remind them. It's big enough that they can put down their drinks without fear of my wrath; but not too big so that there is space in front of each seat. I still put hot pads for anything straight out of the oven (because I'm being paranoid), but for any serving bowls of hot food or sauces from the fridge that might have condensation on them, this is perfect! It cleans like a dream and I have less to worry about damaging my desk!
