I bought this to keep track of the weight of my two cats rather than constantly taking them to the vet. I thought it would be a frivolous expense and that maybe once a month I would only use the scale with cats. I came home from work one day to find my friend weighing "beads" to put in his truck tires. The next day he weighed the package of parts to return the ship to see how much it would cost. A few days later, I used it again to weigh dried fruit and nuts that I had bought loose and portion-packaged. This scale is amazing and so versatile. We use it all the time! For everything! It really makes portioning a meal that much easier. It's easy to set up and easy to use. You can charge it with batteries to make it portable (or take it to the garage) or plug it in if you have a permanent spot for it. So glad we stopped there. And it works great with cats too.
