Review on 🎨 Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer WC Pencils Set of 12: High-Quality Watercolor Pencils for Artists by Kelsey Brown

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not what I expected, very disappointed!

Seriously disappointed with them, they didn't live up to their 'Top 2' reputation for me. The tips are hard, which I liked, so not a lot of wax gets onto the paper (a big plus) and the color distribution was very good (the color dissolves completely when activated with water), but the quality of pigments was disappointing. I bought this set to see if I would like them and if so I will be purchasing a full set of 120 pens. I would say they are probably a good option for coloring in a thick page adult coloring book, but for watercolor painting I would never take them seriously. It's odd that they are marketed as "Artist" quality (as opposed to "Student" quality), perhaps due to the low speed ratings. Caran d'ache Supracolor and Museum Aquarelle have much higher quality pigments, that's my basis for comparison, but these pencils contain too much wax, so with each additional coat wax builds up on the paper. Colors, making them difficult to work with. I had high hopes that they would become my brand of watercolor pencils. You can use them like regular crayons, so I'll just throw them on top of the pile with other crayons. They make a great gift for an aspiring artist who loves to paint!

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
