CRITICAL for 2V 5.4L Engine Timing Chain Replacement

This tool is critical for timing chain replacement. You actually need TWO of these, and I have to say that despite the significant cost of this tool, you have to shell out the cash. Take it from the guy who PAYS NO MONEY and tried it without this essential tool. Unless you're doing a complete cylinder head replacement where you can be absolutely sure of the valve and cam position, or you're not a very experienced mechanic and don't know that particular engine well enough to determine the valve position from the cams , otherwise YOU NEED THESE TOOLS. This is the ONLY way to keep your cams from moving BEFORE you remove the timing chain, but after you have manually turned the main camshaft with a ratchet and set the timing marks to the correct position and orientation. THEN place these tools on each top cam, lock them in place and ONLY THEN remove the timing chain. Otherwise, you won't be able to put the chain on properly, and with this 5.4-litre interference engine, that means guaranteed hard valve-to-cylinder rubbing and likely full valve function if you're lucky, or a complete engine stall if you're not. As expensive as they are, if you have a 2v motor this is what you want and you will need TWO OF THEM, one for each side of the motor because you will need to lock both sides in place once before you can use the remove chain. There is simply no way around it. Pay now or pay much more later without them. DON'T MAKE IT WITHOUT. Speaking from hard experience, don't make short-term bad financial decisions, the negative payback from this will be almost instantaneous. If you cannot afford these tools, do not attempt to replace the timing chain.
