Use a very strong magnet for the base if using a magnetic mount

Firstly I didn't see where it said that a magnetic base is not recommended. Well it isn't. The Comet magnetic base is not suitable for this antenna. It just flew away while driving. I broke the topload within a week. Besides that. Excellent antenna. I've been using it for a while. Works perfectly.
