I made a precise test to be sure. Using a multimeter set to measure continuity, I tested the solar panel. If you connect the wires across the positive terminal, the multimeter will attempt to power the solar panel. There was no successor! If I connected the lines differently (positive line to negative terminal), there was continuity. This means the solar panel has a diode that blocks current from the positive terminal (much like a car battery tries to charge this thing). Then it went to the 12V socket. Inside the LED and the resistor. THIS MUST BE CUT/REMOVED. Leaving it on overnight drains the car battery. With the resistor and LED removed, the 12V outlet will not draw current. I have yet to test this on a sunny day, so I don't know what voltage/current it will output.
