Review on 🎨 KILZ Restoration Maximum Stain and Odor Blocking Interior Latex Primer/Sealer – White (1 Gallon): Superior Solution for Sealing and Covering Stains and Unpleasant Odors by Justin Smith

I bought a house that smelled like pets before I moved in. The carpets were professionally cleaned just before I moved in. In short, there was always a strong unpleasant pet odor. I could smell it all the way to the carpet and tried everything to clean it. Shampoo, vinegar, baking soda, ozone, store bought detergents, nothing helped. For the first year I couldn't open the windows because any moisture that entered this room would cause the carpet to give off a horrible smell, so horrible you could almost taste it. So I gave in and pulled out all the carpet, I found that there was old tile flooring underneath (maybe asbestos flooring) and I thought that was a good thing because it sealed the subfloor. When I lifted the rug, I found stains a foot across and the smell was almost unbearable. but I pulled everything out, gave the floor a good scrubbing and mopping a couple of times, and figured I'd just let it air out. Well, after about another year of trying to let the air out and disperse it while I kept cleaning, I still couldn't open the windows. The smell got better but stayed. Living in an old house with a basement and uneven floors, leveling the house to replace the subfloors wasn't even a financial consideration. So they searched for a solution for a year while the smell was still there, and the only thing that seemed guaranteed to work was restoring the killz. The floor is very shiny smooth tiles. Because of the possibility of an asbestos floor, I have not sanded or prepped it except for a final cleaning. I bought Keelz Adhesion and it was my first coat. I allowed the adhesion to dry for about 2 hours and then applied a thick layer of the Keels restoration. The smell went away as I rolled it. After the floor was completely covered, let it dry for a few more hours and I was able to walk on it. I have trained pets and the house was collapsing so I left the room locked up for about a week to let it dry completely. I waited to be 100% sure it worked before thinking about putting the carpet back in and had the doors unlocked after a week. For about 3 weeks there was a very strong smell of ammonia and a strange paint smell, but now I can open the windows and it all goes away and there is no trace of that original pet smell. When I tried to sort the carpet the space was open and there were no chips or scratches between the dog chasing the cat and scooting about and me walking on it in work boots although it does get dirty. In my experience this is a very strong and durable layer that covers almost everything. It's not intended for foot traffic so you'll need to cover it, but I'm very impressed with the overall result and its durability. So far this step layer has solved all my problems and I have a rug planned now.
