Review on UniFi FlexHD UAP-FlexHD-US 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi Access Point by Ubiquiti Networks by Bernard Foley

This Unifi FlexHD hotspot recently replaced a Netgear Wi-Fi router used in hotspot mode to provide wireless access to my enable at home. I had some performance issues and didn't use the router features as my internal internet routing was handled by a Ubiquity EdgeMax router in my home office connected to my cable modem. The access point is connected to the router via a Unifi 8-port ethernet switch, which is hardwired to the router from my living room. After replacing the uplink from an old Cat 5E cable with outdated Cat 5 connectors with a full Cat 6, I got 1000Mbps hotspot connectivity and extremely high Wi-Fi throughput in and around my home . The Unifi system provides a management tool called the Unifi Controller that manages the access point and two Unifi 8-port Ethernet switches. All setup is done through the controller app, and the feature set is incredibly extensive for the price. (Suggestion: You should install the controller on a system that is available 24/7 for local management and takes full advantage of the controller's remote management capabilities.) An instance of My Controller runs on my Synology NAS, which is with me 24/7 runs at home, but you can install it on any computer. The controller is fully web-enabled and accessible from any modern browser. If you have a large home, you have the option of adding additional FlexHD Access Points that connect to the main unit and provide a strong Wi-Fi signal throughout the home. Mine is in the middle of my house and by itself puts out a very strong signal everywhere, even into the back bedrooms and my garage. I didn't have to contact Unifi support, but there is an active user community that can offer advice. and help if necessary. Highly recommended.
